Burma (Myanmar)

In desperation to bring foreign exchange into the country and prop up its dictatorship, SPDC, the ruling party, has opened the nation’s doors to tourism, eased its visa restrictions, and begun to permit entry by land from Mae Sai in northern Thailand to Kengtung. You no longer need to purchase local currency at the official exchange rate. Foreign investment is also welcomed.

The result has been a rapid increase in hotel construction, development of a rudimentary tourist infrastructure, and an opportunity to visit a country that has been off-limits a long time. Only your conscience can tell you whether by visiting you are supporting one of the most inhumane governments in the world or helping the Burmese get an economic foothold and combat political repression.
