The sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was commissioned to design this sculpture in 1876 to commemorate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence.
In France, Bartholdi required the assistance of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, the French engineer who designed the famous tower in Paris.
So, the Statue of Liberty was built in France, then transported in the United States and assembled on the pedestal built by Americans.
Financing for the pedestal was completed in August 1885 and the construction was finished in April 1886.
However, the Statue of Liberty was Completed in 1884 and was reduced in 350 pieces and packet to be boarded on the French frigate “Isere” to arrive in New York Haorbour.
In 1984, when the Statue’s restoration started, the United State designated the Statue of Liberty as a World Heritage Site.
